KENNY NEARS
HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

Coach Nears is entering his 8th year of coaching high school and JC football. Coach Nears began his coaching career as an Assistant at Southwestern College(2002-2003). The 2010 football season will be his 1st year as Head Coach of the Kearny Komets after serving as a Head JV Coach(2007, 2008), Varsity Assistant(2004-2006,2009) and Coordinator(2009) at Madison High School. In his six years as a Varsity Assistant, Nears was part of a coaching staff whose teams were League
 
Champions 5 times, and a Division CIF Runner Up once (2009).
As a high school player at Kearny (1994-1997), Nears was 1st and 2nd Team all leaguer in Football, Basketball, and a State Long Jumper for track. He participated in the San Diego Alex Spanos All Star Game(1997). Nears attended Southwestern JC to become an All American WR and later received an Athletic scholarship to San Jose State University. In his two years he played Wide Receiver for the Spartans who had a couple notable wins like Stanford and TCU(when they had LT). Nears is a 2001 Graduate of San Jose State University with degree in Criminal Justice.

Coach Nears a proud husband and father of two beautiful daughters Kiera and Kimora Nears. He has been happily married to Avelina Nears for four years. Nears earned his Teaching Credential and Masters Degree(Special Ed. Mild to Moderate) from Azusa Pacific University in 2007. He is currently a Specialized Academic Instruction Teacher at Madison High School, but plans on transferring to Kearny High at the end of the school year.
